Salt gauging at the Glarey estavelle

A group of three scientists from Neuchâtel walked to the Glarey estavelle to readout a temperature and pressure data logger. Whevener enough snow melt or precipitation infiltrates into the Tsanfleuron karst system, water levels rise until a river flows out of this cave passage. In the past, this location acted as a sink for the Morges river in low water conditions, and as a spring (like it did today) in high water conditions.

For several decades now, a portion of the Morges riverbed has been diverted by a dam to prevent the river water from entering the karst system and mixing with the karst waters captured at the Glarey spring.

To better calibrate the rating curve for the estavelle and convert the pressure data to spring discharges, we also performed a salt gauging experiment.
